Not only that "Heroes: A New Beginning" bested the weekend box office, but it also bested the Thanksgiving weekend by becoming the highest weekend holiday release in history.
The Emma Roberts and Zac Efron pic made $75 million ($139 million in five days) easily topped 1999 animated film "Toy Story 2" with $57 million ($80 million in five days).
Now that it's a huge hit, Warner Bros. is now looking foward for next year's sequel "Heroes: The New Heroes", which could do even more business. Already, the pic is up to $250 million worldwide, and should end to a close $900 million.
Falling nearly 70 percent in its second week is "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1" with $42 million ($63 million in five days), bringing its total to $221 million, and up to nearly $500 million worldwide. The fourth installment did even better than any "Twilight" films, and would most likely to gross anywhere from $700 to $800 million worldwide.
"The Muppets" became the top grossing family film this weekend earning $29 million ($42 million in five days).
The 2011 Thanksgiving box office is now up 25 percent from 2010 with "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1" earning $49 million ($75 million in five days), followed by "Tangled" with $48 million ($68 million). "Deathly Hallows - Part 1" is now ended with a total of $295 million, and "Tangled" at $200 million.
The top five goes to two more films; "Happy Feet Two" with $13.4 million ($18.3 million in five days) to $43.7 million and "Arthur Christmas" to $12.7 million ($17 million).
